Dentistry

Equine dentistry is a vital yet often overlooked part of the overall health of your horse. A horse’s teeth erupt or grow throughout their lives thereby developing sharp enamel points that periodically need to be smoothed or “floated”. If not addressed these points may result in ulcers in the mouth, weight loss, malocclusions, and bit related issues resulting in decreased performance. Our veterinarians generally give a mild sedation to facilitate a proper oral exam and use a variety of power and hand tools to address your horse’s individual needs. All horses should have an oral exam on a yearly basis and young horses prior to the start of training. The horse’s mouth is the beginning of the GI tract, and proper dental care plays a vital role in promoting a healthy digestive system.
