Equine Diagnostics & Laboratory in Madison, Georgia & Beyond
Radiography & Venograms
We utilize four advanced mobile digital radiograph units that provide instant image results for thorough evaluation. Some of these units are equipped with battery power, eliminating the need for electrical access. This feature proves particularly beneficial for horses located in remote pasture areas or those unable to be relocated due to injury.
Venograms involve taking radiographs, or X-rays, during or after the injection of radiopaque material into a vein. This process renders the blood vessels visible on the X-ray, allowing for a detailed examination of vascular structures and aiding in the diagnosis of various circulatory issues in horses.
Ultrasonography
Our practice is equipped with three mobile, digital ultrasound units, each compatible with a range of probes tailored for specific uses. These include a rectal probe for reproductive evaluation, a curvilinear probe for thorax and abdomen assessment, and a tendon probe for examining ligaments, tendons, and other small structures.
Endoscopy (1 and 3 meter)
The 1-meter scope is often used for assessing the upper airway, aiding in the diagnosis of respiratory issues like infections and “roarers”. This is useful for its ability to provide detailed examinations, offering valuable insights into potential respiratory ailments affecting horses.
The 3-meter scope serves a broader range of purposes, with gastroscopy being a common application for evaluating the stomach and diagnosing gastric ulcers. However, its versatility extends beyond gastroscopy to encompass evaluations of both the upper and lower airways. This longer scope enables thorough examinations, facilitating the identification of various respiratory conditions with precision.

With quick turnaround times, we ensure prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment for your horse’s health needs.
Fecal Analysis/Parasitology
Using our in-house equipment, we perform Equine Fecal Analysis/Parasitology with same-day results. This diagnostic process entails scrutinizing fecal samples to identify any parasites lurking in your horse’s gastrointestinal tract. Thanks to our swift turnaround times, we can swiftly diagnose and treat any parasitic infections that may be detected.
In non-emergent situations, fecal samples are sent to an outside lab which require longer turnaround times; however, upon completion our clients will receive a recommendation report from their veterinarian detailing when and what product to use for the deworming process.
Semen Evaluation
Semen evaluation involves assessing the quality of semen from a stallion to determine its suitability for breeding purposes. This evaluation includes examining various parameters such as sperm motility, concentration, and morphology. For more detailed information on equine reproduction and semen evaluation, please refer to our Reproduction and Theriogenology page.
IgG
IgG (Immunoglobulin G) testing involves assessing a foal’s blood to ascertain if they have received sufficient antibodies from the colostral milk. This evaluation aids in determining the foal’s immune status and their ability to fend off infections in the crucial early stages of life.
Outside Lab Testing
With same-day processing and shipment to various laboratories around the country, this range of testing covers a wide range of conditions, commonly including Cushing’s, EMS, various muscular diseases, and tick-borne illnesses. Additionally, we offer genetic testing, hormone analysis, drug screening, evaluation for Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM), and histopathology of masses.
