Angie Moore-Sims
Practice Manager
I was born and raised in Madison, Georgia. I spent most of my childhood either riding horses with friends or helping out with the family horse and cattle operation. After graduation, I attended the University of North Georgia where I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree. I immediately began my career in Juvenile Justice. In 1999, I accepted the position of Court Administrator in Newton County. Ten quick years later in 2009, I transitioned back to my hometown as a Juvenile Program Manager serving the youth and families of a tri-county area. After 18 years in Juvenile Justice, I was fortunate enough to return to what I loved the most: green pastures full of horses with my Piedmont Equine family.
I chose Madison, Georgia as home because:
While growing up, I looked forward to days in the city of fine dining, lots of shopping, and a few faces that didn’t recognize me as the “horse trainer’s daughter from Doster Rd.” However, it didn’t take me long to realize that Madison was truly my home of choice. I still love to travel and explore but Madison will always be my home.
When not working at PEA:
I am spending time with family and friends. With an extremely active family, we enjoy working on the farm, playing pickleball, riding, gardening, and poolside nights of laughter. My husband, Carl, and I share many hobbies but the most important is the time spent with our now adult children, Cassidy (Madison, GA), Riley, and our new daughter-in-law, Caroline (Georgetown, SC).

I chose Madison, GA as home because:
I never thought I would have moved from the northeast, to Alabama, and now Georgia. I completely and entirely decided to move here to work with Piedmont’s incredible team of doctors. Ever since I visited this clinic, I knew this was where I wanted to be to continue my education.
When not working on patients here at PEA:
I enjoy spending time with friends, my partner, and my stepdaughter. I have over 50 houseplants, and I will always find a reason to take more home. I have a cat, a snake, and 2 fish tanks that I enjoy taking care of. I enjoy physical fitness and hope to get back into aerial sports-silk, hammock, and cube.
Before becoming an equine veterinarian. I enjoyed spending time with horses:
I did not grow up around horses and had limited experience with them before veterinary school. During my undergraduate years, I worked on sheep, goat, and pig farms, and at the time, I envisioned a future focused exclusively on livestock medicine. After graduating, I made the bold decision to leave my home in Massachusetts and move to Alabama to pursue veterinary school.
During my first year, however, my interests began to shift. As I was exposed to different aspects of veterinary medicine, I discovered a growing passion for equine medicine that gradually overtook my original focus. I spent my summers and school breaks visiting various equine hospitals, immersing myself in the unique challenges and rewards of working with horses.
Though I didn’t grow up riding, one day I hope to learn and eventually own a couple of horses of my own. What started as a curiosity has grown into a genuine passion for equine care, and I am excited to continue growing within this field.
The most fulfilling part of my job:
The most fulfilling part is witnessing the moment a horse begins to heal. Horses can’t tell us what’s wrong, and that makes it more powerful when you finally figure it out and see them respond to care. It’s not just about medicine, it’s about earning their trust, fighting for them when they can’t fight for themselves, and knowing you played a part in giving them a second chance. The moment a once-sick horse nickers at you, or walks sound again, reminds me exactly why I do this. It makes all the long nights and hard days worth it.
What the Piedmont brand means to me:
A team of veterinarians that aren’t just skilled, they’re exceptionally intelligent, compassionate, and thoughtful in the way they approach every case. A team who works with such precision, care, and inspires the next generation of equine vets.
What I would say to my patients if I had a few words:
I know you can’t talk, but if you could just point with your hoof to what’s hurting, that’d make both our lives a lot easier.

I was born and raised in a small town called Rogersville in Eastern Tennessee. I attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for my undergraduate degree in Animal Science and my minor in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. I became a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society in 2023. Although I did not grow up in the equine world, I developed a love for horses and equine medicine during college while working as a student assistant in the UT large animal hospital. Attending multiple equine practices during my clinical year solidified my love for equine medicine and ambulatory practice. Before coming to Piedmont Equine, I practiced large animal ambulatory medicine in central Florida.
I chose Madison, GA as home because:
Madison is such a beautiful town with rich history. I enjoy the small-town feel, similar to the place I grew up, while also being close to bigger cities. I love being in nature, and spending time walking around downtown Madison has become my favorite way to get some exercise after a long day. I hope to continue to learn about the history of Madison and make long-lasting relationships with its residents as a member of Piedmont Equine!
When not working on patients here at PEA:
I enjoy traveling home to visit family and seeing all the cities my veterinary school friends ended up in! I also enjoy crocheting, hiking, biking, and reading at home with my two cats, Flynn and Tater. I have a growing collection of house plants so spending time gardening is becoming a new hobby of mine!
Before becoming an equine veterinarian. I enjoyed spending time with horses:
I did not grow up around horses, however, I was raised with cattle which started my interest in large animals. In undergrad, I started working as a large animal assistant at the hospital and fell in love with our equine patients. I grew my handling and husbandry skills to better learn about the horse world. Once in vet school, my favorite subject was equine medicine and I knew I wanted to pursue a career working with horses. I filled my clinical year with multiple equine rotations and the rest is history. My next goal is to continue trail riding with friends and take riding lessons!
The most fulfilling part of my job:
It sounds cliché but helping the patient feel better and continue living their life as a horse. Working with patient’s that can not speak and say what is wrong can be difficult. But watching them respond to treatment and get back to the healthy state they were in before is very rewarding and makes all the difficult times worth it!
What the Piedmont brand means to me:
A great group of people that all care about horses. It is an environment that allows us to learn and grow everyday in our careers.
What I would say to my patients if I had a few words:
“Sorry about this. But at least my hands are small.”
LOGAN RUCHTI
Intern
I was raised in Monroe, Georgia which is just a stones throw away from Madison! I received my bachelors degree from the University of Georgia and found a passion for horses, agriculture, and livestock. I loved it so much that I decided to attend vet school at the University of Georgia as well (Go Dawgs!) and graduated this past May. Now I am completing a year long internship at Piedmont Equine to further my skills and education!
I chose Madison Georgia as my home because:
I love the rural small town feel of Madison. Living here allows me to be close to my friends and family while pursuing my dream career!
When not working on patients here at PEA:
When I’m not working you can find my fiancé J.D. and I outside riding our horses Amigo and Spanky. Our two dogs Sam and Carl are never far behind! Carl, our border collie, is always busy herding our cows while Sam, our Labrador retriever, stays occupied fetching his tennis ball from the pond. We also enjoy hiking, traveling, and going to concerts!
Before becoming an equine veterinarian, I enjoyed spending time with horses:
I always loved horses growing up and finally caved and got my horse Amigo while I was in vet school. There’s nothing like taking the horses out for a long day to gather the cows with your friends and family.
What made me want to pursue a career in equine medicine:
Originally I thought I was going to be a livestock veterinarian. I loved production medicine but also enjoyed individualized care, which led me to equine medicine! I particularly enjoy sports medicine and internal medicine cases and the complexity it brings! I wanted a career that allowed me to be outside and participate in an agriculturally oriented community and equine medicine is the perfect opportunity.
The most fulfilling part of my job:
I enjoy forming relationships with my patients and clients. It is very fulfilling to watch my patients go home and continue to succeed at their job!
What the Piedmont brand means to me:
A group of people that pride themselves on their passion for equine medicine and solid work ethic.
Childhood career goal:
I was definitely the kid who couldn’t make up my mind. On any given day I would’ve told you I wanted to be a marine biologist, a ranch hand (watched too many old westerns with my grandad), or a veterinarian (go figure).
What I would say to my patients if I had a few words:
“Please just let me help.”
